Preventive dental care is essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Kids are prone to cavities, so it is important that they learn at an early age that brushing, at least twice day, is important in order for them to have a healthy mouth, and a beautiful smile. Kids will be kids; so an important aspect of good oral health is to regularly obtain dental cleanings and check-ups at our Jacksonville, NC location. Dental cleanings will remove plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth. Your child’s dental hygiene appointment will consist of a:
- Dental exam to diagnose any cavities or other dental conditions
- X-rays may be taken of your child’s teeth.
- Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam will perform a thorough exam and check for cavities and other conditions. She will discuss the results of the exam, and answer your questions about the recommended treatment and your child’s general dental health.
- Preventative Cleaning
- The hygienist will clean and polish your child’s teeth in order to remove plaque, a sticky film of bacteria on the teeth that produces acid and may cause tooth decay. The hygienist will also teach proper brushing & flossing techniques, and answer any questions about prevention of gum disease and cavities.
Dental Sealants For Children
Dental Sealants are used in order to protect the chewing surfaces of the primary and permanent molars (back teeth). The first of these molars grow when children are about three years old. The permanent set of molars erupt at about six years of age. Sealants are used as a long-term preventive measure against tooth decay. They lower the risk of occlusal (chewing surface) tooth decay about 85%. Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam will check whether the sealant is still there during routine dental check-ups. If the sealant has worn away, she can re-apply it. Gilliam Dentistry provides dental services for children of all ages including Teeth Cleaning and Dental Sealants. We see patients from Jacksonville, New Bern, Kinston, Wilmington, Morehead City, Havelock, Newport, Raleigh & Durham. Call today to schedule your child’s appointment – most dental insurances accepted.
